Gratitude Exercises for Kids and Adults PLUS Why it’s Important

Both adults and children should practice gratitude every day, I would honestly rather say that they need to. There is so many benefits and it it will effectively boost your general well-being and happiness. At the end of the day, only we can make ourselves happy and by shifting our attention on what we are grateful for, instead of all the negatively (and teaching our children to do the same). Some of the benefits of having a gratitude attitude would be better resilience, boosted mental health, and an optimistic attitude.

What is Gratitude?

It is a very powerful emotion that is more of a mindset that should be practiced daily. It is looking at what you are grateful for instead of what you wish you had. It is about recognizing the support that we receive from others (I’m so grateful that I have *this person* in my life. It is just appreciating all of the love and wonder in the world. It is a mindset that if you choose to practice it every single day (and really put in the work) it will change your whole entire life.

The Benefits:

Believe it or not, gratitude can improve your physical health. When you practice gratitude you will have less stress and anxiety because you’re shifting on your mind on to what you are grateful for. Which than it can turn into a domino effect and boosts the immune system and not as much insomnia. Stress and anxiety can reek havoc on our lives and gratitude is an important tool to combat it.

Another important benefit that is vital that we teach our children is gratitude improves our connection with others which promotes stronger relationships. When we take the time to express gratitude to someone for something (it could be anything from as small as spending time with you and as big as coming to your rescue) it makes them feel appreciated, and everyone wants to feel valued. When a person knows that they are appreciated, it makes the relationship stronger. This helps children develop empathy and gratitude towards others, which is and important skill to learn young because although it is possible to learn these skills later on, it is much harder. It helps make the world a better place.


How to Practice Gratitude:

It is actually very simple, you can start with the worksheets that I created below for free download. You can search Pinterest for ideas. When I searched I saw gratitude jars, where the whole family writes down what they are grateful for and puts it in the jar. Even just taking a few moments in the ay to reflect on what you are grateful for, which when I was growing up we would do this at the dinner table and all have to name two things we are grateful for. Just because it is so important doesn’t mean that it isn’t easy to make apart of our daily routine.

Gratitude Journal (with Download)

If you have never started a gratitude journal, print out the workbook I created for you below. This will be a great way to start. It has enough space for a whole week and I made it the way that helped me find the gratitude attitude within myself.
